There's no choreography, no steps to learn, only the freedom to move the way you feel! Welcome to the 5Rhythms® The Movement Practice of Gabrielle Roth What are the 5Rhythms? The 5Rhythms are a simple movement practice designed to release the dancer that lives in everybody, no matter what its shape, size, age, limitations and experience. To find your dance is to find yourself, at your most fluid and creative level. While the practice itself is the essence of simplicity, it has the power to catalyze deep healing and creative expression. The primary teaching of this work is: if you put the psyche in motion, it will heal itself. The five rhythms are flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical and stillness. They come together to create the Wave, a movement meditation practice. Rather than having steps to follow, each rhythm is a different energy field in which you find your own expression and choreography, thereby stretching your imagination as well as your body. Each rhythm is a teacher and you can expect to meet different and sometimes unknown aspects of yourself as your dance unfolds and your practice of the rhythms deepens over time. What happens on the dance floor? In every class or workshop, there is always a wide range of experience in the 5Rhythms work, from first-timers to certified Wave addicts. In any given class, the teacher will be following the energy in the room. So, while the essential map is one of the rhythms, the teacher might take the class through the entire Wave or focus on just one rhythm or one facet of a rhythm. The rhythms themselves are gateways to literally thousands of different movement landscapes. Like the body, they are alive and designed to catalyze the dancer’s movement expression in the moment. You are different every time you walk in the room, so is the group and so is your teacher. Therefore, each class holds completely unique possibilities. Things to keep in mind • Enter in silence, and begin warming up your body. The warmup is your own time to unwind and arrive in the space. You can lay out on the floor and stretch, sit, crawl, roll around, or simply walk through the space if you like. * The 5Rhythms are a meditation in motion – it doesn't matter how you move, so long as you keep moving! * You are free to move at your own pace, and in whatever way feels good to you. * The 5Rhythms is a map for getting out of our heads, so we get away from words and practice silence – no talking or texting during the class – let your body speak! * Keep your eyes gently open, and be aware of the other bodies in the room. * We dance barefoot, or in dance shoes - no socks on the dance floor! * There may be stretches of time without instruction. Main st Sayville, NY 11782 About ELDOA The ELDOA (translated to LOADS in English) are postural exercises that you can do yourself with the primary goal being to increase the space within a chosen joint. As the ELDOA “create” space, there is an improvement in joint mechanics, increased blood flow, reduced pressure on the discs, a reduction of pain, spinal disc rehydration, better muscle tone, improved posture, and a sense of well being and awareness. ELDOA Exercises ELDOA are postural self-normalizing techniques designed by world-renowned French osteopath, Dr. Guy Voyer for the purpose of widening the space within a chosen joint. This is accomplished by creating fascial tension to fix the vertebra below and contraction in extreme range to normalize the vertebra above the targeted disc. For example, it is possible -- in one minute a day -- to relieve disc compression between L4-L5 (one of the most common locations for disc bulges, protrusions, herniations, and degenerative disk disease). Dr. VOYER developed an ELDOA exercise for every joint in the spine, starting at the base of the skull and ending with the sacroiliac joint. Participant experience with ELDOA class I took a group ELDOA class with a personal trainer and ELDOA student practitioner in Pensacola, FL. The 45-minute session was a typical ELDOA for wellness class, with a mix of postures each held for 60 seconds. The basic postures were performed sitting, lying down, half-kneeling, or on all fours. The class didn't feel like cardio or strength training — or really like any workout I've done before. The closest thing I can compare it to is yoga, but only because ELDOA involves holding postures; otherwise, the similarities end there. The goal of ELDOA isn't to gain flexibility. "When you stretch, you are elongating a muscle, but when you do an ELDOA, you are contracting muscles, ELDOA works with the nervous system, rather than on muscle flexibility." |
